Zack Snyder Leads Tributes on Man of Steel’s 9th Anniversary

It is now nine years since Zack Snyder kicked off his DCEU vision with Man of Steel. While the Warner Bros. comic book franchise may have not turned out as many fans hoped, Zack Snyder still made sure to mark the anniversary of where it all began. The director shared an old behind the scenes image from the making of Man of Steel, a movie that took over $668 million at the box office and saw Henry Cavill become another much-loved version of the character.

Snyder shared an image from the shooting of Man of Steel on Vero, showing him standing side by side with Cavill, with the caption, “My Superman past present and future” along with the hashtag of #Supermanday. Of course there were plenty of fans across social media who were also happy to celebrate the movie’s anniversary and think about what could have been if things hadn’t fallen apart with the original Justice League.

Cavill followed Man of Steel with appearances as Superman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and in Justice League. Of course, following the release of that movie, the DCEU began to fall apart. Despite movies like Aquaman coming along and defying the odds to be a major hit, and a fan campaign leading to Zack Snyder’s version of Justice League being released on HBO Max, the prospect of Henry Cavill or Zack Snyder ever returning to the DCEU are looking pretty slim right now, but Cavill has made it clear he would be willing to reprise the role again.

Man of Steel 2 Trended Last Month As Fans Called For The Sequel

Warner Bros. Pictures

When it comes to Zack Snyder’s DCEU, fans have been unwilling to let go of the idea that they may yet see the director’s vision come to fruition. While #ReleaseTheSnyderCut trended on Twitter for years before Warner Bros. finally allowed Synder to return to make the movie he had intended to, and it seemed like that is where the story should have ended. However, since Zack Snyder’s Justice League debuted a four hour cut on HBO Max, the hashtag has been replaced with calls for Warner Bros. to go further and #RestoreTheSyderverse. This has included calls for Ben Affleck’s Batman movie to be made and last month saw Man of Steel 2 trending.

Last year, Cavill stoked fans by revealing he would love to return to the role of Superman to help continue the character’s development. He told GQ:

“I was very keen on really fleshing out Superman’s early stages of his journey first. We had Man of Steel, and then we went quite a bit darker with Batman v Superman. And if he were to succumb to the Anti-Life Equation and become bad Superman [in Justice League sequels], I really wanted to make sure that we saw the hero Superman and we saw the true symbol of hope, the beacon of light, before we went down the path of darkness and then redemption. It’s still something that I’m very keen to flesh out.”
