If you’re a fan of Young Sheldon, you can rest assured that the show isn’t going anywhere, as CBS announced back in March 2021 that it was renewed for an additional three seasons. This means we have two more seasons — seasons 6 and 7 — to look forward to until 2024. Currently, on the CBS network, Young Sheldon just concluded its fifth season with a bombshell of a storyline that clearly states that this comedy series’ future will take a very dramatic turn.
In the fifth season of this hit CBS series, we see the Coopers going through transitions. We see Mary and George both tempted to begin their own affairs. Georgie is currently dealing with an unexpected pregnancy. Missy is coping with life as a typical high school student and the peer pressures that come along. Meemaw began a new business that’s surprisingly doing well. While our genius Sheldon is tackling new challenges every day as a freshman at East College Tech.

President of CBS Entertainment, Kelly Kahl, said in a statement with The Hollywood Reporter:
“Young Sheldon dominates the broadcast comedy landscape by over +2.5 million viewers and is the lynchpin of CBS’ top-rated Thursday comedy lineup. The humor, warmth and heart exuded by the Cooper family is an undeniable hook for the millions of fans who tune in each week. We’re excited to see what the next three seasons have in store for a slightly older Sheldon and all the Coopers.”
As we eagerly wait to see how life changes for the Coopers in the upcoming sixth season, here is everything you need to know about the next season of Young Sheldon.
Young Sheldon Season 6: Potential Plot
Even before The Big Bang Theory concluded back in May 2019, the network ordered an additional two seasons of Young Sheldon, thus ensuring that the series has guaranteed seasons three and four. As the series continued, the show received excellent ratings and was a hit for CBS which further pushed them to renew the show by an additional three seasons. It is guaranteed to go on until season 7, which will air between 2023 and 2024. Considering Young Sheldon has so much time, the showrunners are likely to have many stories to narrate.
Given the storylines for Young Sheldon mentioned in bits and pieces throughout The Big Bang Theory, it’s clear that there is a lot yet to come. The storyline in season 5 is about to take a drastic turn for the Coopers, especially now since the twins will now enter their teens, Georgie is expecting a child, and the marriage appears to be quickly deteriorating between George and Mary. We’re certain that the sixth season will likely cover all these stories in great detail. We can expect the show to focus majorly on the family now as opposed to Sheldon’s journey, which was the central focus of the show in the initial few seasons.
As Kahl said:
“The humor, warmth, and heart exuded by the Cooper family is an undeniable hook for the millions of fans who tune in each week, we’re excited to see what the next three seasons have in store for a slightly older Sheldon and all the Coopers.”
Young Sheldon Season 6: The Cast
It’s pretty apparent that we will see all the Young Sheldon characters return once again for the sixth season. This means we will see Iain Armitage come back to reprise his role as Sheldon Cooper in the series. Armitage is entering his teens in the show and in real life, so we are confident that the writers will have storylines revolving around him entering puberty, as we did see a little of it in the season 5 finale.
Joining Armitage will be his TV family, the Coopers. This will include his mom, Mary Cooper, played by Zoe Perry, his Dad, George Cooper, played by Lance Barber, his older brother, Georgie Cooper, played by Montana Jordan, his twin sister, Missy Cooper, played by Raegan Revord, and his Meemaw, Connie Tucker, played by Annie Potts.
The recurring cast that we expect to see includes Sheldon’s neighbor, Billy Sparks, played by Wyatt McClure, Brenda Sparks, played by Melissa Peterman, and Mandy McAllister, Georgie’s baby mama, played by Emily Osment, amongst several others. We also expect to hear Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory, come back to do the voiceover.
Expected Release Date
CBS has been pretty consistent with releasing Young Sheldon ever since it began in September 2017. A new season is released every year around fall. That means we can expect the sixth season also to drop around fall, typically around the third or fourth week of September 2022.
