Westworld Cancelation Has Fans Rallying Together to Save the Series

With HBO’s decision to suddenly pull the plug on its critically-acclaimed series Westworld ahead of its planned fifth and final season, fans are banding together with calls to #SaveWestworld.

The dystopian science fiction series, created by Jonathan Nolan and Joy, began in 2016 and ran for four seasons on HBO. The creators previously shared that they had always intended to end Westworld after five seasons, and until Friday, it seemed that the show would run its intended course.

“We had always planned on ending the series next season. You know, we always thought that Westworld should kind of come full circle and back to the West,” Joy told TheWrap. “But with Dolores, who was just a player in other people’s games, finally getting to write her own. Just to close up a lot of the stuff that we’ve seen before like the flash forward with The Man in Black and everything, so we have a plan for season 5 but you know, life can make other plans for you. So we’ll just hope for the best.”

Westworld Fans React to Cancelation: Give Us ‘A Proper Final Season’

With plans for a final season being public knowledge, Westworld fans are finding themselves feeling particularly robbed of a proper conclusion to the show’s storylines.

“It’s ridiculous that HBO couldn’t give Westworld a proper final season,” one fan wrote on Twitter. “Cancelling [sic] it like this, and how season 4 ended…It just doesn’t feel right.”

Others found the news too incredulous to process.

“HBO Westworld. Such an exciting, complex, critically acclaimed series. 4 seasons. No ending,” another tweeted. “It’s a nightmare and I’m gonna wake up, right?”

Though things are looking grim, Nolan says all hope is not lost, telling Deadline, “We always planned for a fifth and final season. We are still in conversations with the network. We very much hope to make them.”

Starring Evan Rachel Wood, Thandiwe Newton, Jeffrey Wright, James Marsden, and Ed Harris, the first four seasons of Westworld are now available to stream on HBO Max. You can see more tweets from fans rallying to save the show on social media under the hashtag #SaveWestworld.
