Watch the First Trailer for We Met in Virtual Reality

Later this month, audiences will see the first movie filmed entirely in Virtual Reality. Every scene within We Met in Virtual Reality will be from the VR perspective, using the popular software VR Chat. The HBO documentary will follow several communities within the VR world and their challenges through the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The movie is shot in real-time, in true documentary style, revealing the growing nature of virtual worlds and how we connect to each other during a time when most people were in isolation. The film promises to document the story of people falling in love, experiencing loss, and unexpected connections. The trailer, revealed exclusively from IGN, can be found below.

In the trailer, we see people playing pool, wedding ceremonies, dance classes, roller coasters, and Jurassic Park-themed tours. In addition, IGN provides a complete synopsis for the film.

The film follows Jenny, an American Sign Language (ASL) teacher, dedicated to building a welcoming community for deaf and hard of hearing VR Chat users, and two long distance couples growing their relationships in VR as they prepare to meet physically – DustBunny; a fitness dance instructor building a career in social VR dance classes and her partner, Toaster; and DragonHeart & IsYourBoi, a couple who met through an exotic VR dance community where they are both performers.

We Met in Virtual Reality promises to be a film unlike any other, blending the troubles of everyday life into a virtual world. The documentary releases on July 27th on HBO and is available to stream on HBO Max.
