Tim Allen Returns as Scott Calvin in First Look at The Santa Clauses

Our first look at Scott Calvin’s return has been revealed. Previously, it had been reported that Tim Allen would reprise the role of Scott, aka Santa Claus, in a new series in the works at Disney+. Dubbed The Santa Clauses, the show serves as a direct follow-up to the original movie trilogy which starred Allen. On Twitter, the Disney+ account just shared a first look photo for The Santa Clauses to celebrate the “halfway to the holidays” mark, and you can check out the post below.

Allen is joined by Elizabeth Mitchell who also reprises her role as Carol Calvin, aka Mrs. Claus, while Kal Penn also joins the cast as a newcomer to the franchise. The new cast also includes Elizabeth Allen-Dick, Allen’s real-life daughter, who makes her feature film debut playing one of the Calvins’ children. Other cast members include Matilda Lawler as Santa’s Chief of Staff, the demanding elf Betty; Austin Kane as Cal Calvin, Scott and Carol’s oldest son; Rupali Redd as Grace Choksi, the daughter of Penn’s Simon Choksi; and Devin Bright as Noel, Santa’s right-hand elf who sees himself as the annual gift man’s best friend.

A synopsis for The Santa Clauses has also been revealed by Disney+, which you can read below.

“Scott Calvin is on the brink of his 65th birthday and realizing that he can’t be Santa forever. He’s starting to lose a step in his Santa duties, and more importantly, he’s got a family who could benefit from a life in the normal world, especially his two kids who have grown up at the Pole. With a lot of elves, children, and family to please, Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the pole.”

The Santa Clauses Revisits Scott Calvin

Walt Disney Pictures

The Santa Clause kicked off with the original film in 1994. This movie put a spin on Christmas films with Tim Allen playing Scott Calvin, an everyman who just so happens to inadvertently kill Santa Claus. As the new Santa, Scott Calvin is initially reluctant but comes to appreciate his role as the man who brings presents to children on a certain holiday every single year.

There have been two sequels released in the series. The Santa Clause 2 was the first to come with its release in theaters in 2002. The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause capped off the trilogy when it was released in 2006. That third installment is not without its fans, but it was not exactly welcomed with the warmest reception when it was released, seemingly killing off the series. Leave it to Disney+ to give The Santa Clause new life thanks to the streaming wars.

The Santa Clauses doesn’t yet have an official premiere date. With the series currently in production, and with the first look image now released, it seems likely that a holiday season release on Disney+ is being teased. Let’s hope more photos or even at teaser trailer are soon to follow.
