Thor: Love and Thunder finds Thor on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher, who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie, Korg and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Thor: Love and Thunder Could Be the Last Time We See Chris Hemsworth as the Asgardian Avenger

Thor is the first MCU to feature in four solo outings, and it sounds like Thor 4 could be the last time we see Chris Hemsworth in the role. “Well the last [Marvel movie] I shot was ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ and it might be my last Marvel movie, I don’t know,” the actor said recently. “It was a wild and fun and wacky experience, as all Taika Waititi movies are. Played that character for ten, eleven, years now, and each time it’s been new and exciting, and this was no exception to that.”

Hemsworth went on to hype the fresh take on the world of Thor from returning director Taika Waititi, as well as assuring fans that he would come back for more Thor so long as it’s what fans wanted, and so long as the character can continue to be reinvented. “It felt very fresh and it felt like we were trying something we hadn’t tried before,” Hemsworth continued. “I was, in Taika’s words, I think a wacky, wild, romantic comedy set in space… I love playing Thor – played it for many many years and would continue to do so if people wanted me to. The most challenging part of playing Thor is reinventing it each time and not having it be predictable for an audience and having it be something they’ve seen before… And that is a challenge but part of the fun.”

Directed by Thor: Ragnarok’s Taika Waititi, Thor: Love and Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Christian Bale as the villainous Gorr the God Butcher, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jaimie Alexander as Lady Sif, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster AKA The Mighty Thor, Russell Crowe as Zeus, and Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper as the superhero collective the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Audiences do not have to wait too much longer to return to the MCU on the big screen, with Thor: Love and Thunder scheduled to be released in the United States on July 8, 2022, as part of Phase Four of the MCU.
