Thor: Love and Thunder Poster Has Gorr Looming Over the Marvel Heroes

Following the release of the hugely exciting trailer for the upcoming Marvel sequel Thor: Love and Thunder, a new poster has now been unveiled via the Marvel Studios Twitter account. Offering the same vibrant color palette that director Taika Waititi demonstrated in his previous MCU outing Thor: Ragnarok, the poster gives us another look at the main players of the piece, including Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Natalie Portman as The Mighty Thor, and Christian Bale as the villainous Gorr the God Butcher.

Along for the ride, and also taking some of the spotlight on the poster, are Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Taika Waititi as Korg. Based on the recent footage, Thor will need all the help he can get as Gorr the God Butcher cuts a bloody path across time and space, taking brutal vengeance against the gods who he believes have left the universe to rot.

Thor: Love and Thunder finds Thor on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced, searching inside for some semblance of inner peace. Of course, he can only deny his superhero duty for so long, as his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher, who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of his old friends King Valkyrie, Korg and, to his surprise, ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who inexplicably now wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Thor: Love and Thunder Marks the Debut of Jane Foster as The Mighty Thor

Thor: Love and Thunder will re-introduce Natalie Portman as Jane Foster. Not seen properly since 2013’s Thor: The Dark World, Jane will re-join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as The Mighty Thor, wielding Mjölnir and thus imbued with the powers of the God of Thunder. Director Taika Waititi has teased how the return of Jane Foster will affect Thor saying, “It’s been about eight years. She’s had a whole other life, and then the love of your life comes back on the scene, and is now dressed like you. It’s a real mindf–k for Thor.”

He continued saying, “You don’t want Natalie coming back and playing that same character who’s walking around with science equipment. You know, while Thor’s flying around, she’s left on Earth, tapping her foot going, ‘When’s he going to be back?’ That’s boring. You want her to be part of the adventure.”

Directed by Taika Waititi and starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor, alongside Tessa Thompson as King Valkyrie, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster AKA The Mighty Thor, Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher, Jaimie Alexander as Lady Sif, and Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper as the Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 8, 2022, as part of Phase Four of the MCU.
