The Wheel of Time Renewed for Season 3

Amazon is starting off strong for Comic-Con. According to Deadline, while everyone is chomping at the bit for updates on The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power; Amazon announced that its other epic fantasy series, The Wheel of Time, has been renewed for a third season! Executive producer and showrunner Rafe Judkins said the following during the show’s panel presentation.

“I’m so thrilled that we’ll be making a third season of The Wheel of Time. The Shadow Rising has always been my favorite book in the series, so being able to bring it to television and introduce new audiences to the stories that made me fall in love with these books in the first place is such an honor, and something I’ve been working toward since I first pitched the show years and years ago.”

The Wheel of Time follows a team of five young men and women whose lives are uprooted by the arrival of Moiraine (Rosamund Pike). According to her, one of them is prophesized to be the Dragon Reborn, a being that is prophesied to either become the savior or downfall of humanity. It’s a race against the clock to find out who is the chosen one before the Dark One escapes from his prison. Vernon Sanders, who is head of global television for Amazon Studios, expressed the following.

“We are so excited to dive deeper into the world of ‘The Wheel of Time’ with Rafe Judkins and his team, who have done such a marvelous job of honoring Robert Jordan’s vision and delivering an incredible viewing experience to Prime Video customers. Season One resonated with the most loyal of Jordan devotees, as well as the uninitiated, who were experiencing this incredible world for the first time, proving this is a show that truly stands out in the genre space. We couldn’t be happier to give fans more reasons to be excited about the show and bring more The Wheel of Time to our customers worldwide.”

Bringing the Magic to Life…

The Wheel of Time is based on the epic fantasy novels of the same name by Robert Jordan. The series spans eleven books by Jordan, with Brandon Sanderson finishing off the last three volumes after Jordan’s death in 2007. The series is considered by many to rival that of The Lord of the Rings in terms of sales and legacy. The books have been adapted into comics, tabletop games, a videogame, and more! The series even has its own convention, JordanCon, which is held in Atlanta, Georgia.

This is the second attempt at a television adaptation of The Wheel of Time. The first attempt was by Red Eagle Entertainment and premiered in 2015 on FXX with negative reviews and legal issues involving copyright. Amazon’s attempts seem to have found their footing in comparison if they’re already good to go for part three! Starring alongside Pike are Daniel Henney, Zoë Robins, Madeleine Madden, Josha Stradowski, Marcus Rutherford, Kate Fleetwood, Priyanka Bose, Sophie Okonedo, Kae Alexander, and Fares Fares.
