The Rock Takes the Throne in New Black Adam Poster

Black Adam takes the throne in the latest poster for next month’s DC outing, Black Adam. Starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the titular antihero, the actor himself has shared the poster via social media, warning that “The time of heroes is over” before promising that, in just one month, “The new era of the DC Universe begins.” You can check out the latest poster for Black Adam below.

After nearly five thousand years of imprisonment, Black Adam, an antihero from the ancient city of Kahndaq, is unleashed into modern times. His brute tactics and way of justice attract the attention of the Justice Society of America, who tries to stop his rampage, teach him how to be a hero more than a villain, and must team up to stop a force more powerful than Adam himself.

The Rock Has Big Plans for Black Adam on the Big Screen

Warner Bros. Pictures

Dwayne Johnson has been waiting a long (perhaps even too long?) time to bring Black Adam to the big screen. And he has big plans for the character’s future. “I am 100% committed to not only Black Adam but then expanding the Black Adam universe, the DC universe,” the actor said, revealing that he wants the character to branch off on his own alongside being a part of the DC cinematic universe. “I hear the fans, we all do, and I pick up everything they’re putting down. It doesn’t get by me, it doesn’t get by these guys [producer Hiram Garcia, producer Beau Flynn, director Jaume Collet-Serra]. This is the beginning, hopefully, fingers crossed, of a very long storytelling road that Black Adam is the anchoring jet fuel now that will then push and press this universe out.”

With this in mind, fans are expecting to see Black Adam meet other characters on screen, with the likes of Shazam, Superman, and Wonder Woman being some of the top choices. But, while Johnson is aware of these hopes, he plans to build an entire sub-franchise around Black Adam.

“The goal is really to expand the universe, and introduce new characters, and spin-offs, and be really strategic about the plan,” Johnson has since added. “We have a few ideas of what characters people are really going to respond to in Black Adam, and so we’re already thinking ahead to: ‘Lets start thinking about that movie, and what that movie looks like for them.'”

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and written by Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines, and Sohrab Noshirvani, Black Adam is scheduled to be released in the United States on October 21, 2022, by Warner Bros. Pictures.
