The Gray Man Posters Put the Spotlight on the Main Players in Netflix’s Spy Thriller

Several new character posters offer another look at the main players of the upcoming Netflix spy thriller, The Gray Man. Shared by directing duo Anthony and Joe Russo (AKA The Russo Brothers), the first set of posters put the spotlight on Ryan Gosling’s titular Gray Man, real-name Court Gentry, Chris Evans as the unhinged Lloyd Hansen, and Ana de Armas’ Dani Miranda.

Each poster brings with it a short, snappy description of each character, with Gosling’s Court Gentry called “The Uncatchable.” A reputation that will no doubt come in handy when he’s forced to go on the run. Chris Evans’ character Lloyd Hansen however is known as “The Unstoppable,” which hints that The Gray Man will see an unstoppable force meet an uncatchable object. Finally, Ana de Armas is called “The Untraceable.”

A fourth character poster for The Gray Man has been shared by star Dhanush, and reveals his role to be perhaps the most formidable of them all. Known simply as “Lethal Force,” Dhanush will no doubt be one of the many assassins hoping to be the one to capture and kill The Gray Man.

Set to be the most expensive movie ever made by Netflix, The Gray Man is based on the 2009 novel of the same name by Mark Greaney, and centers on Court Gentry (Ryan Gosling), the CIA’s most skilled mercenary whose true identity is known to none, who accidentally uncovers dark agency secrets. Soon, he finds himself pursued by Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans), a psychopathic former colleague, who puts a bounty on his head, setting off a global manhunt by international assassins.

The Gray Man Will Spawn a New Franchise for the Streaming Giant

The plan is for The Gray Man to launch a new franchise for Netflix, with Joe and Anthony Russo already planning what will come next for Ryan Gosling’s super spy. “We never want to jinx it,” Joe Russo said recently. “But we’re already thinking through where it goes from here. We like to build out worlds, and we would rather gamble on the upside and put the energy and time in to build out that universe prior to the release, so that the ideas are more germane and organic. That’s how you build out a more complex mosaic narrative.”

The Russo Brothers are of course no strangers to franchise filmmaking, having helmed several of the most successful Marvel movies including Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Netflix clearly have a lot of faith in the directing pair, with the Russo’s heavily involved in what’s to come for The Gray Man. “We’re intimately involved in all of it,” Joe Russo continued. “The focus is to make ‘Gray Man 2’. Our appetite is voracious and the intention is always to do more than we can.”

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, from a screenplay the latter co-wrote with Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, The Gray Man is set for a limited release on July 15, 2022, followed by its release on Netflix on July 22, 2022.
