New Line’s upcoming horror sequel The Nun 2 moves forward with its lead star secured. Per THR, it has been revealed that Storm Reid (Euphoria, The Suicide Squad) will play the protagonist in The Nun 2. MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
Full plot details have not been revealed about The Nun 2. According to the new report, the new story will be set in the 1950s, the same time setting of the original film, suggesting the sequel will pick up not too far off from where The Nun ends. No information has yet been revealed about Reid’s character, though we can presume she encounters the titular demon who returns to raise hell once again.
Reid made her feature film debut in the hit film 12 Years a Slave before going on to appear in other movies like A Wrinkle in Time, The Invisible Man, and The Suicide Squad. She recently appeared in the action thriller One Way with Colson “Machine Gun Kelly” Baker and Kevin Bacon. Of course, Reid is also known for her role as Gia Bennett in HBO’s Euphoria. She will return to HBO with her role in the upcoming TV series adaptation of The Last of Us.
The Nun Was a Hit at the Box Office
The Nun was directed by Corin Hardy and written by Gary Dauberman and James Wan. Following a Roman Catholic priest (Demian Bechir) and a nun (Taissa Farmiga) as they face a demonic nun (Bonnie Aarons) in the early 1950s, the film is a spinoff of The Conjuring 2 which originally introduced the titular menace. It is the fifth installment overall of the Conjuring universe, which has earned more than $2 billion in profits at the box office. While the reviews weren’t exactly kind, The Nun was a huge hit at theaters with more than $265 earned against a $22 million budget.
The Nun 2 will be released in movie theaters on Sept. 8, 2023. Filming is slated to begin in October.
