SNL Game Show Sketch Spoofs Adam Levine and Armie Hammer Texting Controversies

Celebrities are challenged to send “normal” text messages in “Send Something Normal,” a fictional game show introduced in a new sketch on Saturday Night Live. On Saturday night’s episode, Miles Teller appeared as the host of the skit’s game show which features four male contestants tasked with replying to a woman’s direct message on Instagram “in a way that is normal.” Anyone able to complete this challenge will be awarded $100 million, but as you can see by watching the skit below, it’s not quite so easy for the celebrity contestants.

The skit primarily takes aim at recent controversies involving Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine and actor Armie Hammer, both of whom have been met with great embarrassment after alleged text messages the two had sent to others on social media went public. Mikey Day portrays Levine while James Austin Johnson plays Hammer. Meanwhile, Kenan Thompson appears as Neil deGrasse Tyson (who admits that he might send an inappropriate text in another universe, but not this one) as well as SNL cast member Bowen Yang playing himself.

Levine is presented with a scenario where he’s sent a message from a female fan complimenting his music. The singer fires back with messages reading, “Hoooly Moly,” Hoooooly moooly,” “Holy crap,” and “Your body is making my penis smile.”

Hammer did not fare much better with his answer to a message from a concerned “fan” telling him she hopes he’s doing okay. The Death on the Nile star, whose alleged text messages include references to cannibalism, said back, “I want to break open your bones and suck out the marrow.”

Obviously, both Levine and Hammer failed with their responses.

Saturday Night Live Returned After a Cast Shake-Up

This was the season premiere for the 48th season of Saturday Night Live. The series lost many of its most popular performers ahead of the new season, such as Kate McKinnon, Pete Davidson, Aidy Bryant, Alex Moffat, Chris Redd, Melissa Villaseñor, and Aristotle Athari. However, there were several returning stars, such as Kenan Thompson, Heidi Gardner, Cecily Strong, Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, James Austin Johnson, and “Weekend Update” co-anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che. Marcello Hernandez, Molly Kearney, and Micahel Longfellow are among the new cast members.

Saturday Night Live will return on Oct. 8 for another new episode with host Brendan Gleeson and musical guest Willow, followed by the next show on Oct. 15 with Megan Thee Stallion serving as both host and musical guest.
