Samuel L. Jackson recently revealed that Marvel series Secret Invasion would be undergoing reshoots in the coming months; however, it has now been suggested that there could be more substantial changes being made to the show due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. In a report by Daniel Richtman, it has been suggested that rather than the usual tweaks that reshoots usually bring, Secret Invasion could be having significant changes due to a sequence that is too close to real-world events.
Secret Invasion initially wrapped filming in April, just two months after Russia invaded Ukraine. However, the war has continued to rumble on for several more months than was initially expected, and some of the footage and stories to emerge from the country have shown many atrocities and scenes of devastation. Although details about the series are still under wraps, it is not too hard to imagine that certain aspects of the show could come close to the current event considering some of the images seen from the set.

With this having been in consideration for some time, it also helps explain how Secret Invasion was originally expected to air this year but has so far not been given a release date. In the knock-on effect of this delay, it also gives a reason why Marvel Studios chose to swap the release dates of The Marvels and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. With Secret Invasion seeming to have direct links to The Marvels, the uncertainty about the show’s release means the Captain Marvel sequel now won’t hit theaters until next summer.
Samuel L. Jackson Will Be Filming In London in August
These new details about the show come after Samuel L. Jackson was asked whether he was done working on the much-anticipated series and replied, “No. I’m not done. I am on my way back to London at some point in August. But I got to go back and do stuff for The Marvels and then I got to do stuff for Secret Invasion.”
Secret Invasion was first announced back when Phase 3 of the MCU was in full swing, and at the time, it was expected to take the form of a movie. However, the introduction of Disney+ seemed to change this, similar to what Lucasfilm did with Obi-Wan Kenobi, and it was subsequently added to the extensive list of Disney+ projects being worked on for 2022. Earlier this year, an update by one of Marvel’s own sites listed Secret Invasion as being released around August or September, but that date was removed quite quickly, and now the spot seems to have gone to She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, which arrives on August 17.
While there has still been no date confirmed for Secret Invasion, it is now expected to arrive sometime around February 2023, but that is obviously subject to change depending on how the reshoots go and how long the subsequent post-production visual effects work takes to complete. Although there are still plenty of other Marvel shows coming to fill the gap this year, Secret Invasion is probably one of the most anticipated shows currently on Marvel’s slate and one that fans would like to see arrive sooner rather than later.
