Sean Patrick Flanery Tries Hand at Directing With Frank & Penelope

Sean Patrick Flanery, one half of The Boondock Saints alongside Norman Reedus, has gotten behind the camera for Frank & Penelope. His directorial debut will be a thriller based on an original story by John Thaddeus and will be released in theaters on June 3, 2022. The synopsis of the film is as follows:

“While on the run from the law, Frank (Billy Budinich) and his stripper girlfriend, Penelope (Caylee Cowan) find themselves miles from civilization, while traveling a desolate Texas blacktop. As darkness falls, they come upon a small motel and diner and decide to rest for the night. The next day, after robbing the diner, they suddenly become immersed in a hellish nightmare.

“When the proprietor of the motel and diner, Chisos (Johnathon Schaech) a psychotic cult leader, along with his sadistic cult family, take Frank and Penelope on a life and death journey, where escape is just a heart-pounding breath away. It soon becomes apparent that they are not the first to endure this. But these two will either get out together or ‘go out’ together.”

In a homage to the exact amount of cash left in the main characters’ bank account when they embark on their road journey, Redbud Studios is giving away $24,824.04 to one lucky fan via consumer sweepstakes. Starting on April 11 and ending on September 1, 2022, at 11:59 o.m. More About Frank & Penelope

According to Flannery, “I know that some dreams have more nutritional value than food, and that every one that is not acted on will eventually morph into regret. And, while I’ve had opportunities to direct in the past, none came with the old school auteur style carte blanche that producer Scott Dolezal was offering… to truly write without reins and shoot without guidelines.“That phone call was one of the most wonderful and creative opportunities to have ever befallen me. And it’s not lost on me that these completely unbridled opportunities are unicorns in today’s Hollywood… but I’ve now seen that one-horned fucker up close, and I want a herd.”

Frank & Penelope had its world premiere at the Riviera International Film Festival in Italy on May 14. It’s also been screened as part of the Cannes Film Festival market before its theatrical release on June 3. Flanery wrote the film, produced by Dolezal and executive producers Allen Gilmer, Riki Rushing, William Shockley, and Tom Brady. It also stars Kevin Dillon, Lin Shaye (Insidious, The Grudge), Donna D’Errico, and Sonya Eddy.
