Scream 6: Dermot Mulroney Reveals Tragic Link Between His Cop Character & Ghostface

The upcoming slasher sequel, Scream 6, will put several new faces in front of the screaming visage of the Ghostface killer. One such newcomer is Young Guns and My Best Friend’s Wedding star Dermot Mulroney, who has now revealed while speaking with ScreenRant that his character will have a tragic connection to the masked murderer.

“I see it in your background over there and, can I tell you, I just watched Scream 4 and 5 to prepare for my role in Scream 6 and they’re great movies, it’s so fun. [Chuckles] I’m really thrilled to throw down with this great cast, much of the same lead cast from Scream 2022, they’re making another one right away, thrilled to join up and we’re shooting as we speak. Yeah, I play a cop, so finally they’re asking me to play cops here and there, this is one of them. I guess I shouldn’t say that my daughter is one of the victims, but I don’t have to describe how or in what way, so that’s what draws me into the story is strong family ties.”

We have known since Dermot Mulroney was added to the Scream 6 roster that he would be playing a cop. What we did not know is that this cop will have had a run-in with Ghostface, with Mulroney’s character’s daughter sadly finding herself one of the victims of the serial killer. While Mulroney manages to keep some cards close to his chest, it is likely that his daughter meets her end during the beginning of Scream 6 and thus pulls him into the story.

That said, it is also possible that Mulroney’s daughter has already been killed by Ghostface when we meet him, with the cop character harboring a vendetta against the slasher killer and taking the chance to hunt him down when he reappears during the events of Scream 6. Of course, this is all just simple speculation.

Dermot Mulroney is a Cop in New York City

Paramount Pictures

While Mulroney does not confirm this, it is expected that his character will be a New York City cop. Recent reports have stated that Scream 6 will move the action away from Woodsboro and into the Big Apple as it “continues with the four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.”

Scream 6 will pick up following the events of this year’s Scream AKA Scream 5, as several new characters from the most recent installment attempt to put the horrors of Ghostface behind them. Sadly, it sounds like this will not be a very successful attempt.

Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (who are known collectively as Radio Silence), written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, Scream 6 will star Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Courteney Cox, Hayden Panettiere, and Dermot Mulroney. Several more additions to the ensemble cast have recently been made, including Henry Czerny, Samara Weaving, Tony Revolori, Jack Champion, Devyn Nekoda, Liana Liberato, and Josh Segarra.

Scream 6 is scheduled to be released on March 31, 2023.
