Sarah Paulson to Star In and Executive Produce Horror Thriller Dust

Sarah Paulson is set to star in an upcoming horror thriller titled Dust, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In addition to acting, she will also work as an executive producer for the project. Dust is being produced by Searchlight Pictures. Given Paulson’s talent, the horror thriller will likely be the latest addition to a long line of high-quality performances.

Will Joines and Karrie Crouse are directing the film. Additionally, Crouse is writing the movie’s screenplay. Production is expected to begin sometime in late August. A release date has not yet been announced. Given the probably August production start date, Dust will likely premiere at some point in 2023. Hulu will distribute the motion picture in the United States, while other release plans will be unveiled soon. Since multiple foreign countries do not have access to the streaming service, theatrical releases are likely in the works. There is a possibility that the movie could have a limited release in theaters in the United States, as well.

A synopsis for the project explains how “Dust will portray a mother trapped by increasing dust storms as she is haunted by past encounters and a threatening presence and takes extraordinary steps to protect her family.” It is unknown whether the threatening presence is supernatural or more realistic. Her character will deal with dust storms, internal conflict regarding her past, and another exterior threat.

‘Sarah Paulson is an Extraordinary Artist’

In a joint statement, Searchlight presidents David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield praised the actress when they said, “Sarah is an extraordinary artist and we are thrilled to be working with her again.” The presidents of the company are clearly impressed with her talents.

Paulson has worked with Searchlight Pictures in the past with films including the Oscar-winning 12 Years a Slave and the underrated thriller about an escaped former cult member titled, Martha Marcy May Marlene. Also, the actress has plenty of experience in the horror/thriller genre. Past projects she has acted in include multiple seasons of American Horror Story, the M. Night Shyamalan sequel Glass, and the suspenseful Hulu movie Run. Like the latter, Dust will air on the streaming service Hulu. In the latter two projects, Paulson played characters who seem kind at first, but hide sinister plans. Unlike Glass and Run, where she played antagonists, Paulson will be the main protagonist of Dust.

Sarah Paulson has also previously appeared in the heist movie Ocean’s 8 for Warner Bros, and Todd Haynes’ critically acclaimed drama Carol. With experience in horror, thriller, drama, and heist films, Paulson has worked in a wide variety of genres. In the latter, she starred alongside Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara. Paulson will soon star in Bad Robot’s adaptation of the Glennon Doyles memoir Untamed.

Recently, Paulson played Linda Tripp in American Crime Story: Impeachment. Her performance received critical acclaim and earned an Emmy nomination. Many critics considered her acting to be better than the television season itself. She will soon start working on the set of the movie adaptation of Bruce Norris’ Pulitzer, Tony, and Olivier Award-winning play Clybourne Park. The feature will be directed by Pam McKinnon.

Paulson is represented by CAA.
