Ryan Reynolds Pokes Fun at Disney as Deadpool 1 & 2 and Logan Arrive on Disney+

The Marvel movies Deadpool, Deadpool 2, and Logan are coming to Disney+ this weekend with all three films set to start streaming on the platform on July 22. Developed at 20th Century Fox prior to the Disney merger that will bring Deadpool into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the three films all have the distinction of being rated R. While the Deadpool movies had previously been made available for streaming at Disney-owned Hulu, this marks the first time the three R-rated films will join other Marvel movies on Disney+.

It wasn’t until March of this year when Disney+ finally began integrating TV-MA and R-rated content. This opened the door for the streamer to bring in the Marvel shows that had previously been housed at Netflix, including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, The Punisher, Iron Fist, and The Defenders. With the Deadpool flicks and Logan, Disney will promote the films’ arrival on Disney+ at San Diego Comic-Con.

Ryan Reynolds also had some fun with the situation with a post on Twitter. Making the announcement that the films are coming to Disney+, Reynolds argued that there are other movies already on the streaming platform that should be R-rated for the “irreversible trauma” that they’ve caused young viewers.

“We’re supposed to announce Logan and Deadpool will soon be the first R-rated movies on Disney+. But we all know some Disney movies should already be rated R for irreversible trauma,” Reynolds said, including four rating cards explaining why some animated classics should be R-rated.

One film, clearly Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, is rated R for: “Breaking and enterting. Borderline polyandry. Pretty sure those diamonds aren’t cruelty free.”

Old Yeller, another Disney movie, contains the “Total ugly-cry incuding straight-up murder of Old Yeller. Also, bear abuse.”

The warning for The Lion King states: “Fratricide. Mauling. Very possibly half-sibling lovin’, or at least kissin’ cousins. Seriously.”

And, of course, Bambi is included. It should be R-rated for the “cold-blooded killing of an innocent deer mom, that will cause lifelong trauma.”

Will Deadpool 3 News Be Announced at San Diego Comic-Con?

20th Century Fox

It’s an interesting time to put the Deadpool films and Logan on Disney+, as it comes at a time when Marvel Studios makes its return to San Diego Comic-Con. That has some fans wondering if there will be some big news announced at the event about Deadpool 3, the long-gestating sequel that’s currently in development. There had been some concerns that Deadpool 3 would have a softer rating with the film having Disney as its new owner, but the writers have made it clear that this won’t be the case.

“Don’t worry about that,” co-writer Rhett Reese said of the rating, via Den of Geek. “They’ve been very supportive with regard to that. Now when it comes to a particular joke, if we cross a line, maybe we’ll hear at some point, ‘Maybe not that joke.’ But I think they’ve been incredibly supportive of what we’re doing because, obviously, we were doing it separate from them for a long time, and I think they’ve seen the success, and they’ve had their own even greater success. So hopefully, it’ll be a marriage made in heaven. But we’ve definitely got their support, and that’s a great thing to feel.”
