The first teaser trailer has just been released for The Munsters, a movie that reboots the classic sitcom with Rob Zombie at the helm. Featuring the familiar theme song made famous by the original series, the new teaser introduces the three main cast members: Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman Munster, Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily, and Dan Roebuck as The Count, aka Grandpa. After making their entrances sitcom-style and in black and white colors, the teaser then reveals the three leads in full color as they’ll appear in the film.

The teaser also showcases the type of humor that will be seen in the film, and it’s reminiscent of the original comedy series that it’s based on. Fans also should not expect for the comedy to go beyond a PG rating, as the new video also confirms that this is the final rating bestowed upon the film. It will be the first PG rating for a Rob Zombie film, and while that’s unusual for the House of 1000 Corpses director, he came into this project as a huge fan of The Munsters and seems to be keeping the film as faithful as possible to its source material.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
Fans of The Munsters may also notice that Eddie and Marilyn are still nowhere in sight. While Zombie has said that Pat Priest, who played Marilyn in the original sitcom, will be involved in the new film, he has not stated who exactly may be playing these classic characters. It seems likely that if these characters are included, they won’t be in lead roles, given all of the promotion that has been centered on Phillips, Zombie, and Roebuck. But it would still feel like something is missing without them, so maybe Zombie has been saving that reveal for later.
The Munsters Are Coming in 2022
Some fans may have been hoping for a release date to be revealed in the teaser, but all that the new video tells us is that the film is coming in 2022. There have been different rumors about the movie’s release, as earlier reports indicated a day-and-date release on Peacock and in theaters. More recent rumors suggest the movie may get sold to Netflix for a streaming release. In any case, Rob Zombie has not officially announced a premiere date, but that information can’t be too far off with a teaser now here.
“I really hope audiences walk away feeling entertained and laughing. That’s all we really hope for making any movie, well, unless it’s a drama,” Roebuck has said of the film in a Horror Geek Life interview, suggesting sequels may happen. “If all goes well and people really like it, maybe we’ll get the chance to do it again. I just hope people realize that they’ll have a whole new version of The Munsters that can live and co-exist side-by-side with the original version of The Munsters. No one wants to replace it, we all love it so much. We just want to shine a spotlight on it with our approach which I think is the best way to look at it.”
The Munsters is expected to be released in 2022.
