Nope Star Wants to Play a New Character in the MCU

Nope is looking to be one of the biggest films of the summer, hauling in $44 million during its opening weekend. That’s the biggest domestic box office opening for an original movie since Jordan Peele’s previous film, Us. Nope follows the Haywood’s living on their family ranch when objects mysteriously start falling out of the sky, killing siblings OJ and Emerald’s father. Following the tragic loss, the brother and sister attempt to capture video evidence of an unidentified flying object with the help of a tech salesman (Perea).

Brandon Perea had a standout performance in the film, delivering hilarious lines while simultaneously being terrified when the extraterrestrials arrived. Until now, Perea has only had a few significant roles across TV and movies, appearing in The OA for Netflix and the feature film American Insurrection in 2021. However, Nope may have given the actor his breakout role, and Perea is looking to capitalize.

The actor recently expressed interest in joining the MCU as Nova during an interview with Remezcla, and Perea followed it up with a Tweet telling fans to spread the word.

Perea said during his interview: “Marvel Cinematic Universe – I need to be there. I hope my performance in Nope proves that I can play a Marvel superhero. That’s what I want in my career – 100 percent.” It wouldn’t be surprising to see Disney and Kevin Feige reach out to the up-and-coming actor, as the studio is known to catapult rising stars into worldwide fame.

Whether Perea will get the chance to play Nova or any character within the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still unknown. However, his performance in Nope certainly helped solidify the actor as a talent in high demand. You can check out Brandon Perea, Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, and Steven Yeun in theaters now with Jordan Peele’s latest film.

Perea is Open to Other Characters

Universal Pictures

Brandon Perea wants to be in the MCU and is open to any role he can get. Although the actor specifically mentioned Sam Alexander’s Nova, Nightcrawler was another Marvel character cited.

Of course, the X-Men and mutants would have to be formally introduced first, which seems to be in motion following the finale of Ms. Marvel. Nightcrawler, otherwise known as Kurt Wagner, is a mutant with teleporting abilities, also known for having a kind and soft heart. He quickly became one of the most beloved and respected X-Men due to his charming and easygoing attitude. The character resembles his role in Nope, showing just how well Perea could fit into the MCU.

For now, there’s no news regarding the actor’s involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, Kevin Feige and Disney may notice Perea’s love for the genre and find a place for him within the larger plot by Marvel Studios.
