Netflix Releases New Clip From Upcoming Thriller The Gray Man

Netflix is delivering yet another big-budget, action-heavy, star-studded thriller this summer with The Gray Man. The Russo Brothers’ film will follow a former CIA operative who uncovers agency secrets, with a global manhunt ensuing. The new clip, posted by Netflix, can be found below.

In the exclusive clip, we see Ryan Gosling’s character, Court Gentry, infiltrate an enemy compound, taking down his opposition before Lloyd Hansen, played by Chris Evans, arrives at the scene. However, as soon as Gentry is held at gunpoint by Hansen, Dani Miranda, played by Ana de Armas, is there to save the day, even if Gentry didn’t need saving. The official synopsis for the film reads:

Court Gentry, aka, Sierra Six a highly skilled former CIA Operative, was once the agency’s best merchant of death. After his escape from prison, and recruitment by former handler Donald Fitzroy, Gentry is now on the run from the CIA with agent Lloyd Hansen hot on his trail. Aided by Agent Dani Miranda, Hansen will stop at nothing to bring Gentry down.

Anthony and Joe Russo recently discussed Evan’s role in the film at Netflix Geeked Week, with IGN reporting. Evans rose to global fame as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but his role in The Gray Man is a polar opposite. Anthony Russo says it’s “so far away from what he did as Captain America.”

“It reminds us of [Henry] Fonda in Once Upon a Time in the West, where he took this all-American reputation and put it at risk by playing, basically, a child killer. Evans is doing the same thing here: He’s playing a ferocious psychopath. Highly entertaining, very sarcastic, but does a lot of terrible things in the movie. That’s risky.”

For now, we will have to wait and see if Evans can pull off the psychotic villain role.

The Russo Brothers Are No Stranger to Big-Budget Films

Despite The Gray Man being the most expensive Netflix movie to date, with a production budget of over $200 million, this won’t be the highest budget Russo Brothers film. The directors are responsible for Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, the epic conclusion to the Infinity Saga within the MCU. Each film had a budget north of $300 million, and both movies grossed over $2 billion at the box office. So the Gray Man couldn’t be in safer hands with Anthony and Joe Russo at the helm.

Joining the three main stars are Jessica Henwick, Wagner Moura, and Billy Bob Thornton. The Gray Man will see a limited release in theaters on July 15th before debuting on Netflix on July 22nd.
