Ms. Marvel Star Discusses Working With Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris

Ms. Marvel has arrived on Disney+ to a wave of praise from fans and critics, but is young star Iman Vellani seems to be taking everything in her stride, including working with established MCU stars like Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris. The latest Marvel Studios TV series sees Vellani playing Kamala Khan, a young girl with big dreams of being a superhero like her idol, Captain Marvel. Thanks to one of those events that only happen in comic books, her wishes start to come true as she is bestowed with cosmic powers that will eventually lead her to join forces with Carol Danvers in The Marvels next summer.

Speaking to Screen Rant about joining the MCU, Vellani addressed what it was like working with Larson and Parris, and how she had a great time filming The Marvels. She revealed:

“They’re like my older sisters. They’re very easy to work with, and they really do take care of me. They’re super protective over me, and I just am so appreciative of that, because I was super intimidated going into filming. I was the youngest, I was the newest actor, and I’m like, ‘I want to be able to provide what these guys need to do the scene with them.’ I don’t want to just not give them anything. I think it worked out really well, and it was honestly super fun filming with them. And it was really empowering just standing in super suits next to them.”

Marvel Studios Have Another Hit With Ms. Marvel

Many saw the expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to Disney+ something of a risk, and there were questions of whether the already sprawling cinematic world would be able to keep fans on board with dozens of new TV series to watch as well as several movies a year hitting theaters. As we have seen over the last two years, the answer to that has been an overwhelmingly positive one, and having not really put a foot wrong so far, Ms Marvel’s arrival has delivered another critically acclaimed show.

Ms. Marvel’s launch episode gained a huge 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which has since been backed up with a 90% audience approval rate. To bring this into context, Marvel’s current most watched series on Disney+ is Loki, which has a critic rating of 92% and audience score of 91% after a year on the platform. While these are some pretty big boots to fill, it looks like Ms. Marvel could be quite capable of wearing them.

Ms. Marvel will keep Disney+ viewers entertained over the summer until Thor: Love and Thunder arrives in cinemas in July, and of course August will now bring not only She-Hulk: Attorney at Law to the platform, but also the shorts series of I Am Groot, which is now known to be arriving the week before She-Hulk’s debut. There have been some worrying reports about She-Hulk being “a mess” lately, and it now seems that its premiere will have a tougher job following the unanimously praised arrival of Ms. Marvel.
