Leah Remini Replaces Matthew Morrison as Judge on So You Think You Can Dance

A recent judging panel shakeup will see Leah Remini join the FOX dancing competition series So You Think You Can Dance. Per Variety, Remini officially joins the series as a talent judge after Matthew Morrison recently exited for violating competition production protocols. She will serve as a judge alongside Stephen “tWitch” Boss and JoJo Siwa, both of whom joined the series at the start of the season with Morrison. Remini will also just so happen to make her debut on the show’s 300th episode on June 15.

“I am thrilled to join So You Think You Can Dance on its milestone 300th episode,” Remini said in a statement. “I look forward to guiding these incredibly talented artists through this competition as a fan of the show and a great admirer of dancers. I can’t wait to see the artistry that the contestants bring to the stage!”

The 300th episode will take some time to celebrate the show’s enduring legacy. It has been on the air for 16 seasons and serves as one of the most successful reality competition shows, garnering 17 Emmy wins during its run so far. This season’s top 12 dancers will also be performing as the season continues starting with this next episode.

Matthew Morrison Offered an Explanation for His Exit

So, what exactly led to Matthew Morrison leaving So You Think You Can Dance? When his leaving was first announced, it was only stated that he had violated “competition production protocols.” There had been subsequent reports that he had texted a female contestant on the series, leading to speculation of misconduct on his part. Looking to clear the air, Morrison posted a video on Instagram to explain what led to his dismissal from the FOX dancing show.

“It’s really unfortunate that I have to sit here and defend myself and my family against blatantly untrue statements made anonymously, but I have nothing to hide,” Morrison says in the video. He confirms that he had sent a text message to a contestant, but insists that it was an innocent attempt to get someone they both admire a job on the show. Morrison then reads the actual text he had sent, which says:

“Hey, it’s Matthew. If you don’t mind, would love to get your number and talk you through some things.”

“The end,” Morrison added. “I sent this because this dancer and I both share a mutual respect for a choreographer that I’ve known for over 20 years and I was trying to help her get a job as a choreographer on the show.”

In any case, Morrison is out, and Remini is in. The 300th episode of So You Think You Can Dance will air on FOX on June 15.
