Latest Thor: Love and Thunder Trailer Offers First Look at the Asgardians of the Galaxy

The latest trailer for the upcoming Marvel sequel Thor: Love and Thunder provides our first look at the Asgardians of the Galaxy. While the likes of Star-Lord, Drax, Nebula, and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy have appeared throughout the marketing material for the Thor follow-up, this is the first time they have been given a bona fide hero shot — with the God of Thunder as the leader, of course. Much to the chagrin of Peter Quill, no doubt.

Released courtesy of Marvel Entertainment, the teaser also offers new looks at the insectoid, Miek, an epic shot of Olympus, and further shots of Natalie Portman’s return as Jane Foster, who has now emerged as The Mighty Thor.

The final moments of 2019’s comic book epic Avengers: Endgame finds Thor heading off into the unknown with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Thus, Thor: Love and Thunder will pick up right after this, with the former Asgardian Avenger joining forces with the Guardians and assisting them in their various battles across the galaxy before parting ways and making way for the main plot of the standalone Thor sequel.

While the Guardians of the Galaxy are not expected to take up too much screentime in Thor: Love and Thunder, returning MCU star Karen Gillan has assured fans that they will be given plenty of time to be typically bonkers. “Taika really brought out the bonkers side,” the actress, who will reprise the role of Nebula in Thor: Love and Thunder, revealed. “I think everyone is just really, really funny and bonkers and wild…I don’t know if it’s personal [levity]. Like I don’t think [Nebula’s] finding herself funny or being funny, but in her seriousness I think we will find her funny, and just the pure aggression that we’ve tapped into.”

Marvel Studios

The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues with Thor: Love and Thunder, which finds Thor on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher, who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie, Korg, and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, Thor: Love and Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tessa Thompson as King Valkyrie, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster AKA The Mighty Thor, Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher, with Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper due to return as the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 8, 2022, as part of Phase Four of the MCU.
