Kraven the Hunter Test Screening Receives Positively Solid Response

The upcoming Sony Spider-Man Universe outing, Kraven the Hunter, has reportedly received a test screening – and things are looking solid. According to industry insider Big Screen Leaks, Kraven the Hunter has now been shown to a test audience, with the Aaron Taylor-Johnson comic book vehicle receiving some positive buzz from those in attendance.

Of course, a test screening is merely an early preview used to gauge audience reaction, with movies often undergoing various changes between these screenings and wide release. But it does bode well for Kraven the Hunter that things are looking “solid.” Even if that is not exactly a glowing review. Still, with just under a year before release, it sounds like things are looking good for the debut of Kraven the Hunter and the next installment in the Sony Shared Universe.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Directed by J. C. Chandor (Triple Frontier) from a screenplay by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk, not much has yet been revealed regarding the plot of Kraven the Hunter. It is expected that the movie will follow in the footsteps of fellow Sony Marvel movies Venom and Morbius, telling the origin story of the beloved supervillain and transforming him instead into an antihero.

So, Kraven the Hunter is likely to follow the exploits of the Marvel character created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko for “The Amazing Spider-Man #15” back in 1964. Born Sergei Kravinoff, Kraven was raised in Russia during the time of the Russian Revolution, and after spending some time in Kenya, Kraven finds an affinity for hunting. After being given a herbal potion that enhances his strength, speed, and senses, Kraven tires of big game hunting and is drawn to Spider-Man, slowly becoming obsessed with being the man to catch the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler.

Kraven the Hunter Will Join Venom & Morbius in the Sony Spider-Man Universe

Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Kraven the Hunter will join the likes of Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock aka Venom and Jared Leto’s Morbius in the…divisive Sony Spider-Man Universe. So far, and despite some mammoth box office takings, the franchise has yet to hit the same heights as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the studio no doubt hoping that Kraven will finally prove to be both a critical and financial success.

Kraven the Hunter lead Aaron Taylor-Johnson has previously discussed joining the world of Sony’s Shared Spider-Man Universe alongside the likes of Venom and Morbius, with the actor hoping to carve out his own path among the other Marvel antiheroes. “You do come at it from another angle, which is back-to-front for me,” he said. “It’s like you’re coming at it from the physical aspect, because that’s what you can see from a comic book. You go, ‘Oh, he looks like that, so I have to look like that.’ You see that, and then you start to backtrack and dig deeper, and go, ‘This is where he originates from, then he has this relationship and that relationship…’ You just hope that you’re going to portray something that you can bring to life.”

Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, Christopher Abbott, Alessandro Nivola, and Russell Crowe, Kraven the Hunter is scheduled to be released in the United States on October 6, 2023.
