Jurassic World: Dominion First Reactions Sway From Solid Finale to Monstrous Disappointment

The first reactions to the highly anticipated dino-action sequel, Jurassic World: Dominion are now in. And they are a decidedly mixed bag. The reactions to the Jurassic World follow-up come have flooded onto social media following the North American premiere in Los Angeles, and while some lucky viewers have praised many elements of Jurassic World Dominion, including the cast and dino-effects, others have come away from the screening hugely disappointed.

We shall start though from a positive place, as Jurassic World Dominion is praised for being a “big, roaring fun adventure” — which sounds like exactly what audiences will expect.

Jurassic World Dominion takes place four years after Isla Nublar has been destroyed. Dinosaurs now live and hunt alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history’s most fearsome creatures. The sequel brings back the original Jurassic Park trio Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Sam Neill, with many applauding their return.

Sadly, for some, the comeback of the legacy characters does not alleviate the movie’s weaknesses, with their presence even highlighting these weaknesses on occasion.

Others though have heaped praise on the practical effects on display, with one audience member feeling that Bryce Dallas Howard emerges as the best thing about Jurassic World Dominion.

Unfortunately, a lot of the early reactions are, to put it mildly, not good. Many found Jurassic World Dominion to be a gross disappointment, particularly when the sequel has been envisioned as a franchise finale.

Some even walked away thinking that Jurassic World Dominion is the worst of the franchise —a franchise that has already seen its fair share of dramatic ebbs and flows. Of course, despite apparent leaps in logic and overreliance on nostalgia, Jurassic World Dominion is still likely to be a massive financial success.

Thankfully, there were still a few who found a lot to enjoy in Jurassic World Dominion, with one reaction even calling the sequel the best installment in the modern trilogy.

Directed by Colin Trevorrow, who has written the screenplay with Emily Carmichael, and based on a story by Trevorrow and his writing partner, Derek Connolly, audiences will not have to wait long to judge the sequel for themselves. Jurassic World: Dominion features BD Wong, Omar Sy, Isabella Sermon, Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda, each of whom will reprise their roles from previous movies in the franchise, adding DeWanda Wise, Mamoudou Athie, Campbell Scott, Scott Haze, and Dichen Lachman for this grand Jurassic finale.

Jurassic World: Dominion is scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States on June 10, 2022 by Universal Pictures.
