Jonathan Bennett Hopes for On-Screen Reunion With Mean Girls Co-Star Lindsay Lohan

Jonathan Bennett is hopeful about an on-screen reunion with his Mean Girls co-star Lindsay Lohan. The two played love interests Aaron Samuels and Cady Heron in the 2004 cult classic film. While speaking with PEOPLE during Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas Event, Bennett spoke about his desire to team up with the actress:

“My dream and my goal is to get to do a Christmas movie with Lohan and reconnect for the holidays. I think it would be so much fun.”

Bennett, who has appeared in multiple holiday films on the Hallmark network, also jokingly welcomed Lohan to the film genre, adding:

“As the self-proclaimed King of Christmas, I, with my authority, graciously welcome Lindsay Lohan into the Christmas movie world, and I hereby declare this year, Lindsay Lohan’s Christmas year.”

Bennett will make history with the network next month when The Holiday Sitter premieres on December 11. It is the first of Hallmark’s films to feature a same-sex couple as its central characters. Bennett also appeared in The Christmas House in 2020, and it was the first of the network’s films to feature a gay couple as supporting cast. He reprised his role for The Christmas House sequel the next year.

While Lohan hasn’t responded to Bennett’s holiday wish, she recently told Extra that she would be open to a Mean Girls sequel or reboot:

“I’ve been saying yes forever, so I feel like a broken record. The thing is, it’s so tough [because] ‘Mean Girls’ is so good the way it is. It’s like, ‘Do you really wanna mess with that?’ But you never know.”

Bennett isn’t the only one of Lohan’s former co-stars who wants to work with the actress again. Jamie Lee Curtis, who co-starred in 2003’s Freaky Friday with the actress, has expressed her desire for a sequel. Curtis, who will appear in Disney’s Haunted Mansion next year, recently said she and Lohan were in talks with Disney about a sequel. In the film, Curtis and Lohan play a mother and daughter who switch bodies and are forced to take on each other’s personas until they can find a way to switch back.

Lindsay Lohan’s Movie Comeback

After a hiatus, Lohan recently returned to acting with Netflix’s Falling for Christmas. While the actress made guest appearances on multiple series throughout the years, the holiday movie marks her first starring role since her 2013 role in Paul Schrader’s The Canyons. In Falling for Christmas, Lohan portrays Sierra Belmont, an engaged heiress who suffers from amnesia as a result of a skiing accident. A handsome lodge owner, played by Chord Overstreet, helps Sierra recover. Through the process, the two start to develop feelings for each other.

Falling for Christmas premiered this month to high viewership numbers on the streamer, but critical reception has been less favorable. The film also stars George Young, Jack Wagner, and Olivia Perez.

Lohan will also star in Netflix’s Irish Wish as part of a two-picture partnership deal with the streamer. In that film, scheduled for a 2023 release, Lohan will play Maddie, a woman who finds herself in her best friend’s body on her wedding day.
