Johnny Depp Rumored for Beetlejuice 2 Role

Will Johnny Depp appear in Beetlejuice 2? No official announcements have been made, and it’s still not clear if the long-rumored sequel is definitely happening. With that said, some fans think they have found evidence that Depp will be involved with the movie, as a Google listing for Beetlejuice 2 lists Depp alongside Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder.

More information about the rumored film has also been spotted on its IMDb page. As untrue information has been added to IMDb in the past, it’s best to take this with a grain of salt, but the listing states the sequel will be released in 2025. A story synopsis has also been added, but again, it’s best to treat the information as a rumor only without any official confirmation that the sequel really will happen.

According to IMDb’s synopsis, the “original cast and crew” will return alongside new additions when “Beetlejuice is found homeless in the netherworld.” The Michael Keaton-portrayed character heads back to the mortal world to seek comfort only to find that the Maitland house has been destroyed, but things take a turn when he learns that “the Jersey Devil (Will Arnett) is his long-lost son.” The unverified synopsis adds:

“Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) is wooed by the enchanting Jersey Devil, despite being married to a struggling real estate agent (David Harbour). Through kooky scenarios and ecstatic characters, the fun never stops. Though entertaining, it is also a heart-wrenching tale that shows Beetlejuice is just another man trying to find his way in the world. The story also progresses the idea that a family is never truly ideal. The story continues when you say the release date three times unbroken.”

Is Beetlejuice 2 Really Happening?

Warner Bros. Pictures

Fans should not get their hopes up just yet for Beetlejuice 2, as the sequel has been rumored to happen for over 30 years. With that said, it’s possible that the movie will finally make some traction in the near future. We are in the age of reboots and legacy sequels, and producers have no doubt noticed the excitement created when Warner Bros. announced Michael Keaton would reprise his role from Tim Burton’s Batman films for The Flash. It’s not that far of a stretch to think this could lead to Beetlejuice 2 getting greenlit.

It was also reported in February that the rumored sequel has gotten back on track. At the time, The Ankler reported that Keaton and Winona Ryder would reprise their roles for a Beetlejuice sequel produced by Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B. It was also noted that the sequel could start filming as soon as this summer if all goes well. None of the actors have confirmed nor denied this report, and neither have Warner Bros. or Burton.

Maybe, just maybe, the film will finally happen with Brad Pitt’s help. For now, we’ll just have to stay tuned for any potential official updates.
