Attack the Block star John Boyega has provided a promising update on the long-awaited sequel. While attending the premiere of director Jordan Peele’s Nope, Boyega was asked by Deadline Hollywood about the progress of Attack the Block 2, to which he replied:
“We’re in the lab. We’re cooking, we’re cooking. I sat down with Joe Cornish just literally a few weeks ago. So expect some news soon. We’re still in development but we’re cooking something real sweet. We’ll have something soon.”
So, if nothing else, it certainly sounds like Attack the Block 2 is happening. Boyega revealed that he and returning director Joe Cornish are still actively working on the project, even adding that we should expect some news about the sequel “soon.” Fans have been waiting for a follow-up for over a decade now, but following such a positive update from Boyega, no doubt they can continue to patiently wait a little longer.

Written and directed by Joe Cornish, the first Attack the Block centers on a teenage street gang led by John Boyega as Moses. When predatory alien invaders land on their council estate in South London, the gang is forced to defend their turf against these savage alien creatures. Together, they must step up and fight to succeed in their mission and stop the creatures from wiping out humanity.
Starring Doctor Who’s Jodie Whittaker, as well as Alex Esmail, Franz Drameh, Leeon Jones, Simon Howard as Biggz, and Nick Frost alongside John Boyega, Attack the Block underperformed at the box office upon release, but was highly praised by critics. The movie has since garnered a dedicated following thanks to its perfect mix of sci-fi, comedy, and horror.
Attack the Block 2 Will See Both John Boyega & Joe Cornish Return
This is not the first time that Boyega has teased the eventual arrival of Attack the Block 2. Last year, the actor hinted at his and director Joe Cornish’s plans for the sequel, which will lean into contemporary London and reflect how things have changed since the release of the first outing all those years ago.
“It’s been a decade since Attack the Block was released and so much has changed since then,” Boyega said. “I’m excited to see this heightened story return to the streets of London. Moses has remained one of my favorite characters to play and bringing him back is a huge honor.”
Attack the Block 2 will see both John Boyega and director Joe Cornish return, with the latter also revealing his excitement over bringing Moses and the gang back. “I’m thrilled we’re officially announcing our return to the world of Attack the Block on the tenth anniversary of the film’s release,” Cornish said last year. “I can’t wait to work alongside John again, bringing audiences an even bigger slice of inner-city alien action.”
While we await more updates on Attack the Block 2, John Boyega has several projects coming up, including Breaking alongside Michael K. Williams, Nicole Beharie and Connie Britton; historical epic The Woman King alongside Viola Davis; and the Netflix sci-fi comedy They Cloned Tyrone.
