Jason Momoa Offers More Details on His Fast X Villain: ‘He’s Very Sadistic & Androgynous’

Jason Momoa will be playing an antagonist in Fast X and is hoping to make the most of the role, seeing as how he doesn’t get to play bad guys too often. Momoa caught up with Variety during the premiere of the third and final season of his Apple TV+ series See and briefly talked about his experience playing the villain in Fast X.

“Time of my life. I get to be the bad guy finally. I’ve been the good guy for a while. He’s very sadistic and androgynous and he’s a bit of a peacock… He’s got a lot of issues, this guy. He’s definitely got some daddy issues.”

Jason Momoa’s mystery villain remains nameless but will give Dom and his family a tough time, as indicated by the set photos. The Aquaman star previously described his character as someone who enjoys laughing maniacally while blowing up cars, has painted toenails, and drives a lavender car. Momoa told GQ recently:

“It’s been hard because people always think I’m just this dude who plays [macho characters]. But I want to be moved, I want something new. Things are changing, and even the villain roles I’m playing now are eccentric.”

It appears Fast X is embracing the franchise’s goofy side fully, unlike the previous films, which attempted to be serious, yet also ridiculously over-the-top. However, the film still has Charlize Theron’s ruthless Cipher to balance out Momoa’s eccentric bad guy.

Fast X Will Be the Most Epic Installment of the Franchise Yet

Universal Studios

Fast X faced some behind-the-scenes trouble when director Justin Lin reportedly departed the film due to Vin Diesel’s “difficult behavior.” Universal quickly tapped Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk, Now You See Mee) to helm Fast X as the budget soared to $300 million, and things have been smooth sailing since then.

Fast X has assembled the most stacked cast yet, with Hollywood biggies Jason Momoa, Daniela Melchior, Brie Larson, Alan Ritchson, and Rita Moreno joining the franchise regulars Vin Diesel, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, John Cena, Jordana Brewster, Cardi B, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Scott Eastwood, Michael Rooker, Helen Mirren, and Charlize Theron.

Fast X, the tenth entry in the beloved Fast & Furious franchise, will serve as part one of the two-part finale of the saga. And since most of the characters introduced in Fast X will also appear in Fast & Furious 11, the film will certainly feel epic in scale as it sets the stage for a grand finale. Ludacris recently teased that it will blow the fans’ minds.

“Every single movie I am thinking… ‘How can we [top this]? How can you top space?’ Like, come on, man. There’s some twists. There’s more turns. There’s even more characters being introduced that are going to blow your mind… There’s a lot of takeaways from the next one. It comes out next year.”

Fast X is slated to premiere on May 19, 2023.

As for Jason Momoa, he will next appear in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, arriving on March 17, 2023. The film will also feature Ben Affleck in what could be the beginning of his second stint as the DCEU Batman. “It’s just hugs and kisses. I love that guy,” Momoa said of reuniting with Affleck. “We get along too well. It’s very good to see him again.”

Momoa is also wrapping up Apple’s sci-fi drama See with the upcoming season 3, set to debut on the streamer on August 26. You can check out the trailer below.
