For many, San Diego Comic-Con delivered a lot of new Marvel content for fans to absorb, but as always, it was the trailers and details that were not released to the general public that brought a wave of comments on social media. Although Marvel Studios unveiled a new She-Hulk: Attorney at Law trailer and the first trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, many wanted to know why the first Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 footage was revealed only to those in the room and not online. Director James Gunn has now explained exactly why the Guardians 3 trailer is not ready for public consumption just yet.
James Gunn joined Chris Pratt and many of the other Guardians stars on stage during the Marvel Studios panel on Saturday. While the panel itself has now been released online, the footage from the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 that was shown at the San Diego event was not released at the same time. After being questioned about this on his Twitter account, James Gunn revealed exactly why there is currently no trailer for the movie available online. When fans said they wished they could have seen the footage, Gunn said:
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
“I wish you could have too. But it’s not just Marvel, it’s also me. Although I love the teaser some VFX aren’t where I’d want them to be for repeated views & close inspection – remember we didn’t wrap long ago – so you’ll have to wait just a beat! Sorry!”
It Is Too Soon for Marvel to Release a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Trailer
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures
With Black Panther: Wakanda Forever arriving this November, and the first trailer only having been released on Saturday, it is not surprising for the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 trailer to not arrive online this past weekend. Marvel Studios is not known for putting out trailers early, and considering the final Guardians movie is not due to hit cinemas until May 2023, it is much more likely that the first trailer will not be seen publicly until after the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in February 2023.
Footage from the Ant-Man sequel was also shown during Comic-Con, and it would have been much more likely for something from that movie to have been released, but again, with the film not due to premiere for another seven months, the first trailer for Phase 5’s opener will not be revealed until near the end of the year.
There is always a running theme with anything Marvel Studios do, and that is no matter how much they give, fans always want more right now. Having spent an hour on Saturday laying down the roadmap of Phase 5 and 6 of the MCU, which will now join Phase 4 as The Multiverse Saga, social media has been filled with questions such as who will play the Fantastic Four, where are the X-Men, why was the Nova series not included in the list of the upcoming titles, and so on and so on. In time, all will be revealed, and by that time, Kevin Feige will be stepping up on stage to deliver a new road map for Phase 7, 8 and 9, and will be faced with exactly the same “we want it now” questions and comments.
