Insidious 5 Officially Wraps Filming

Often called one of the scariest movies ever made, the Insidious franchise is back, and filming on the fifth installment has officially wrapped. The news was shared Monday in a tweet by Dagmara Dominczyk, wife of director and star Patrick Wilson.

“6 weeks of (fake) blood, sweat, and tears, and now he’s mine all mine once again,” Dominczyk wrote, sharing a sweet photo of her resting her head on Wilson’s shoulder. “[Wilson] directed a movie, (and killed it, no pun intended) but man oh man we sure have missed him #thatsawrap.”

Although his work in the franchise has mostly been in front of the screen until now, Insidious 5 marks Wilson’s directorial debut.

In 2010, Wilson starred alongside Rose Byrne, Ty Simpkins, and Andrew Astor in the first Insidious film. The four portrayed the Lamberts, an American family plagued by malicious entities from “The Further” when their young son Dalton (Simpkins) falls into a coma. When the Lamberts seek the help of psychic Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye), the family discovers that what Dalton is experiencing is more horrifying—and, as it turns out for Wilson’s Josh, more familiar—than initially thought.

The franchise continued to follow the Lambert family through the second film, but shifted focus to prequels and spin-offs for the third and fourth films.

Insidious 5: What We Know So Far

With the sequel coming over a decade after the first film, time has passed considerably for the Lamberts, who are preparing to send Dalton off for his first year in college. While the entire family struggles with this new transition, the young man will have to reckon with an ability he doesn’t even realize he possesses.

Wilson, Byrne, Simpkins, and Astor are all set to reprise their respective roles for Insidious 5.

Per Collider, the first two films’ director James Wan will be producing the film alongside Leigh Whannell and Jason Blum. Whannell, who has written every previous Insidious installment, wrote the script alongside Halloween Kills writer Scott Teems.

Insidious 5 is expected to hit theaters July 7, 2023.
