The Disney live-action remake of Hercules is now officially underway, with Aladdin and Sherlock Holmes director Guy Ritchie confirmed to be at the helm. While very little else is yet known about the project, Hercules fans have quickly taken to social media to offer their suggestions on which actors would best suit the main players in Disney’s next live-action outing.
Beginning with the title character, the Greek demi-god himself, Kingsman: The Secret Service actor Taron Egerton has emerged as a fan-favorite choice to play Hercules as he takes the leap from animation to live-action.
Known for his role as Eggsy in the Kingsman franchise, for which he is due to return for a third outing, Egerton has consistently impressed in the likes of Eddie the Eagle and Rocketman, with many believing him to be the perfect choice for Hercules in Guy Ritchie’s remake.

While many agree that Egerton is a top choice, some fans do have other ideas, suggesting that Stranger Things and Power Rangers star Dacre Montgomery should take the lead.
Other fans, meanwhile, have called for Maze Runner and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 star Will Poulter to take on lead duty — especially now that he has been through a Marvel workout regime.
Aside from Taron Egerton, Man of Steel star Henry Cavill is another name that has come up a lot, with many feeling that the Superman actor is the only correct casting choice for the role of Hercules. Notably, Cavill has worked with director Guy Ritchie before on the 2015 spy flick The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
But, if we’re looking back at who has worked with Ritchie for inspiration, then this fan surely has the best suggestion for both lead roles.
Of course, those familiar with the story of Hercules have a pretty pertinent reason for why perhaps none of these choices are correct…
What About Meg, Hades, Zeus & the Rest?
Putting Hercules to one side, what of Meg, Zeus, Hades, and the rest of the beloved character roster? Singer Ariana Grande has been a fan-favorite suggestion for Meg for some time, but some fans have other ideas in mind.
Broadway star Elizabeth Gillies has emerged as a top choice for Meg, with many feeling that she would be best suited to bring the spirited, delightfully cynical Disney character to life.
Here’s a few more fan-casting suggestions, including Zeus, Hades, and many fans favorite members of the Hercules supporting cast, the Muses.
Based on the 1997 Disney outing, Hercules will follow the son of the Greek god, Zeus, who is turned into a half-god, half-mortal by the evil Hades. After living a normal life for several years, Hercules later discovers his immortal heritage and is told by Zeus that he must prove himself a hero before being allowed to return to Mount Olympus.
Directed by Guy Ritchie and written by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings scribe Dave Callaham, Hercules has not yet been given a release date. Who would you like to see play the likes of Hercules, Meg, and the rest of the beloved cast of characters in the live-action remake?
