Henry Cavill & Eiza González Will Lead WWII Action Spy Flick for Director Guy Ritchie

Man of Steel star Henry Cavill and Bloodshot’s Eiza González will lead the upcoming World War II action spy movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare for director Guy Ritchie. The news comes courtesy of Deadline, and reveals that Cavill, who has been a spy for Ritchie before in 2015’s The Man from U.N.C.L.E., will star as “the leader of the secret combat organization” while González will play “a military sniper with extraordinary spy-craft abilities.” Roles that sound perfectly suited for the pair of action stars.

Directed by Sherlock Holmes and The Gentlemen filmmaker Guy Ritchie, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare will be inspired by true events, and will follow the World War II strategies conceived by United Kingdom Prime Minister Winston Churchill and James Bond creator and author Ian Fleming. “The clandestine squad’s unconventional and entirely ‘ungentlemanly’ fighting techniques against the Nazis helped change the course of the war and in part gave birth to the modern Black Ops unit,” the synopsis for the project in the report states.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare will reportedly be chock-full of “colorful characters” akin to director Quentin Tarantino’s 2009 World War II movie Inglourious Basterds. Written by Guy Ritchie and Arash Amel, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is set to be based on the works of war correspondent and military historian Damien Lewis and more specifically his 2016 book of the same name, with Ritchie hoping that it will spawn an action franchise.

“A world in turmoil. An ancient evil awakened. The only thing that stands between the world and certain doom, the biggest bunch of whack jobs you have ever seen,” the logline for The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare book reads, before revealing the colorful cast of characters that will likely inhabit the adaptation. “A smooth talking ladies man who is quite possibly an alcoholic, a paranoid schizophrenic with a knack for explosives. An egotistical know-it-all who spends most of his time with his pet bear. A self absorbed martial arts expert who cares more about his guns than actual people. A promiscuous young girl who also happens to be a super-genius. And a grumpy old professor who could shoot the hair hanging out of your nostrils from three hundred meters away. Welcome to The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, these men and women (and Bear?) are the only thing that stands between the world and certain doom. God help us all.”

Henry Cavill Has Several Major Projects in the Pipeline

Warner Bros. Pictures

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is just one of several major projects in the pipeline for Henry Cavill. A pipeline that is now missing further seasons of The Witcher. The actor recently reprised the role of Superman for the final moments of the DC outing, Black Adam, and is expected to headline a solo project in the future alongside appearing in further cameos across the DC Cinematic Universe.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is not the only spy role coming up for Cavill, with the actor set to star in Argylle for director Matthew Vaughn. Cavill leads the movie as a world-class spy suffering from amnesia, who is tricked into believing he is a best-selling spy novelist. After his memories and lethal skills return, he goes down a path of revenge against the shadowy organization he used to work for, the Division. Cavill can currently be seen in Netflix’s Enola Holmes 2.

As for Guy Ritchie, he will first helm the spy action outing Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, starring Jason Statham, Aubrey Plaza, and Josh Hartnett.
