Henry Cavill Busy Filming The Witcher Season 3, Unlikely to Appear at Comic-Con

Recent rumors that Man of Steel star Henry Cavill could be making a surprise appearance at San Diego Comic-Con 2022 may have already been dashed. According to Collider’s Steven Weintraub, Cavill will be too busy filming The Witcher Season 3 to feature at the event.

Rumors have suggested that Cavill could show up at Comic-Con to make a long-awaited Superman announcement, with “buzz” alleging that Cavill would appear during the Saturday Warner Bros. panel to “talk up more Superman.” Sadly, this does not sound like it will be the case. Bad news for Superman fans, but good news for those patiently awaiting his return as Geralt in The Witcher.

Of course, it is possible that Henry Cavill will achieve the impossible and appear in two places at once. Or maybe he could just use Zoom or some such. In any case, Weintraub is doubtful that the actor will show his really, really ridiculously good-looking face at San Diego Comic-Con “Unless he can really fly.”

Henry Cavill first appeared as the DC icon Superman in 2013’s Man of Steel. The actor has since played the character throughout director Zack Snyder’s hugely divisive Snyder-Verse, reprising the role in 2016’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice before uniting with the likes of Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and The Flash in both Joss Whedon and Zack Snyder’s respective versions of Justice League.

The actor’s portrayal of Superman has been well-received by audiences and fans of the character, with Cavill himself expressing numerous times his desire to once again don the red cape.

“There is still a lot of storytelling for me to do as a Superman, and I would absolutely love the opportunity,” Cavill said previously. “The killing of Zod gave a reason for the character never to kill again. Superman falling to the ground and screaming afterward – I don’t think that was originally in the script, but I wanted to show the pain he had. I did far more emotional takes they didn’t choose; tears were happening. He just killed the last remaining member of his species. That’s the choice he made in that moment, and he’ll never do that again. There’s an opportunity for growth after that, to explore the psyche of Superman as a deep, seemingly invulnerable god-like being but with real feeling on the inside. As I always say, ‘The cape is still in the closet.'”

For Now, Henry Cavill is Busy Hunting Monsters in The Witcher

While he may still someday maybe return to the role of Superman, Henry Cavill is currently plenty busy reprising one of his other celebrated roles, that of the monster Geralt in The Witcher Season 3.

“As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it,” the synopsis for the third season of The Witcher reads. “Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line — or risk losing each other forever”

The Witcher Season 3 does not yet have a release date, but will once again debut on Netflix.
