Grant Gustin Responds to The Flash Final Season Announcement in Emotional Video

The Flash season 9 will be the final season in the long-running DC series on The CW, and having played the role of Barry Allen since 2013 Grant Gustin is a little emotional about the end of an era. While all attention is currently on the shake-up happening over at HBO Max, the problems for DC properties began much earlier this year when The CW announced that many popular Arrowverse shows including Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow would not be getting renewals at the network. While The Flash was one of the few that did get a renewal, this week it was announced that the next season will be the last.

Another blow for DC fans in a very trying few weeks, the reveal that season 9 of The Flash will contain 13 episodes and will premiere sometime in 2023 to conclude Barry Allen’s story in the Arrowverse. In response to this, actor Grant Gustin shared a video on his Instagram account in which he thanked fans for their support they have given him and the show over the years, and expressed his gratitude at being able to be part of The Flash for so long. He said:

“Hello everybody. By now most of you will have seen the news, but some of you haven’t. This week we announced season 9 of The Flash will be the final season, which is bittersweet. It’s been an incredible near ten years of playing this character and getting to be a part of this show, with an amazing cast and crew, and so much love from you guys, from the fans and the people who love the show, I mean that’s the only reason why we have been able to go on for as long as we have. I’m really excited to do this one more time and finish on our terms and I’m going to just enjoy every minute of it as much as I can. I wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting the show and allowing us to go as long as we have and I couldn’t be more honored to be associated with this character for the rest of my life and career. It is seriously a true honor and thank you again for supporting us and I hope you enjoy this last season. I know I’m going to enjoy making it. Thank you guys.”

The Flash Is Getting What Many Arrowverse Shows Didn’t…an Ending.

One of the most notable things mentioned by Gustin in his video is his comment that the show is ending “on our terms.” While many of the other Arrowverse shows were ended without the chance of giving the fan-favorite characters a true conclusion to their various storylines, The Flash is aware that this season is now going to be its last and that means the series can deliver the ending that showrunner Eric Wallace chooses. He said in a statement:

“Nine seasons! Nine years of saving Central City while taking audiences on an emotional journey full of heart, humor, and spectacle. And now Barry Allen has reached the starting gate for his last race. So many amazing people have given their talents, time, and love to bring this wonderful show to life each week. So, as we get ready to honor the show’s incredible legacy with our exciting final chapter, I want to say thank you to our phenomenal cast, writers, producers, and crew over the years who helped make The Flash such an unforgettable experience for audiences around the world.“

The Flash Season 9 will premiere in 2023 on The CW.
