Gears of War Creator Calls for Dave Bautista & Ryan Reynolds to Star in Netflix Movie

The creator behind beloved video game franchise Gears of War, Cliff Bleszinski, has called for Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista and Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds to lead the recently announced Netflix adaptation. Taking to social media, Cliff Bleszinski revealed who he would like to see take on the main cast of characters in the live-action movie, quickly naming Bautista and Reynolds as his choices for Marcus and Baird, respectively.

While Reynolds’ name was first brought up by a fan, the casting of Dave Bautista is clearly something that Bleszinski feels needs to happen when Gears of War hits screens in the near future. Thankfully, Bautista has repeatedly stated how much he would love to lead the franchise.

“I don’t make any pretense about it,” Bautista revealed last year. “I had a chance to get a meeting at WB, they were talking to me about this and that and I said, ‘hey, let’s talk about Bane.’ That happened to me one other time in my career. They wanted to talk to me about Fast and the Furious, and I said, ‘I’m not interested, let’s talk about [Gears of War character] Marcus Fenix’…”

Considering that Bautista has starred in several Netflix productions, including the action zombie movie Army of the Dead and the upcoming whodunit Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, the actor’s name has no doubt already been scrawled on a whiteboard somewhere in the Netflix studios.

Cliff Bleszinski Does Not Want Chris Pratt Anywhere Near the Gears of War Franchise

Xbox Game Studios

One actor that Bleszinski does not want anywhere near the Gears of War franchise, however, is Bautista’s Guardians of the Galaxy co-star Chris Pratt. Alongside making suggestions for who should be cast, he implored Netflix to keep Pratt far, far away from the adaptation.

Created by Epic Games, developed and managed by The Coalition, and owned and published by Xbox Game Studios, Gears of War is a hugely successful third-person shooter that focuses on the conflict between humanity and the subterranean reptilian hominids known as the Locust Horde. Featuring giant men battling even more giant monsters, Gears of War became one of the best-selling franchises for the Xbox 360, with fans having waited a long, long time for the grim and gritty action to make the transition from video game to the silver screen.

Thankfully, it sounds like that patience has paid off, with Netflix announcing earlier this week that a Gears of War movie and an animated series are now in development. “Gears of War was released 16 years ago today and to mark the occasion, Netflix has partnered with The Coalition to adapt the Gears of War video game saga into a live-action feature film, followed by an adult animated series — with the potential for more stories to follow!” Netflix said in a statement.

Would you like to see Dave Bautista and Ryan Reynolds lead the Gears of War adaptation? Both actors are, of course, plenty busy right now, with Bautista set to star in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Knock at the Cabin from director M. Night Shyamalan, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and Dune: Part Two. Ryan Reynolds, meanwhile, will next give us all festive feelings in Spirited alongside Will Ferrell before uniting with Hugh Jackman for Deadpool 3.
