Jessica Chastain is returning to the big screen in The Good Nurse, set to release on Netflix later this year. Based on the 2013 book, The Good Nurse: A True Story of Medicine, Madness, and Murder by Charles Graeber, the movie will explore the heroic lengths one nurse will go to stop another healthcare worker who purposely kills their patients.
The plot follows the true story of Amy Loughren (Chastain), a nurse who attempts to stop her coworker, Charles Cullen (Eddie Redmayne), who moves from hospital to hospital over a 16-year career, administering lethal doses of insulin and other drugs to his patients. The film will also shine a light on the American health care system and the hospital administration that allowed Cullen to get away with his actions for so long. Vanity Fair released images from The Good Nurse today, which can be found below.

Tobias Lindholm directs the film, whose previous work includes R, A Hijacking, A War, Mindhunter, and The Investigation. Krysty Wilson-Cairns is adapting the novel into the screenplay, with Darren Aronofsky, Scott Franklin, and Michael Jackman producing. Jonathan Filley and Ari Handel will act as executive producers.
Noah Emmerich, Kim Dickens, Ajay Naidu, Nnamdi Asomugha, and Marcia Jean Kurtz will join Chastain and Redmayne in The Good Nurse. There’s no release date set for the film; however, it’s expected to release on Netflix sometime this year.
Chastain Wanted to Make a Different Type of True-Crime Story
Jessica Chastain saw an opportunity with The Good Nurse to tell a true-crime story that’s not entirely focused on the serial killer but highlights the unlikely hero who helped take down the murderer. During her interview with Vanity Fair, she shared her thoughts regarding the violence involved with true-crime projects and why her movie will be different, despite including dozens, if not hundreds of killings.
“There have been a lot of shows and movies about true-crime events that I find could be a bit vulgar — there’s a sensationalism of violence and of aggression. I wanted to acknowledge someone like Amy. She’s the kind of superhero that I want to celebrate, because they’re everywhere. “
Chastain will be able to highlight and portray her hero later this year when The Good Nurse arrives on Netflix.
