Doctor Strange 2 Clip Sees The Scarlet Witch Battle The Illuminati

The Scarlet Witch battles the Marvel superhero think-tank The Illuminati in a newly released clip from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Following the release of the first official images of The Illuminati, which includes Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter AKA Captain Carter, Lashana Lynch as Maria Rambeau AKA Captain Marvel, and Anson Mount as Blackagar Boltagon AKA Black Bolt, the footage comes courtesy of Marvel Entertainment and sees the superhero group come face-to-face with a rampaging Wanda Maximoff.

Doctor Strange and The Scarlet Witch come across The Illuminati when traveling across the multiverse. Apprehended in Earth-838, Strange is brought before the likes of an alternate Karl Mordo, Peggy Carter, Blackagar Boltagon, Maria Rambeau, Reed Richards, and Charles Xavier, the leader of the X-Men played once again by Patrick Stewart. The Illuminati is an incredibly powerful and influential force in the comics, but The Scarlet Witch puts their reputation to the test.

While it is unlikely that this version of The Illuminati will be seen on the big screen again (if you know, you know), we may see more variants of these characters. Notably, Patrick Stewart has revealed that he would be interested in once again reprising the role of Professor Xavier. “Charles Xavier? Yeah. There may be. You know, the whole X-Men comic series is so huge, so vast, there might be an opportunity in which he comes back. We’ll see,” the beloved actor said recently.

Those who do know the fate of The Illuminati might be surprised to learn that the vendetta of The Scarlet Witch was originally going to be even more brutal. “I — I was — I was also supposed to kill more. I had a hard time with it,” Elizabeth Olsen has revealed. “I was like, these are human beings and Wanda is okay with ending their lives? But I just had to buckle down and think all these people are in her way and she’s warned Doctor Strange not to get in her way. And he did. He didn’t listen. And so I just had to go from that point of view.”

Directed by Sam Raimi, written by Michael Waldron, and starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange, alongside Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Rachel McAdams, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness picks up not long after the events of the brilliant Spider-Man: No Way Home. The Marvel sequel finds Strange teaming up with several heroes, including America Chavez, The Sorcerer Supreme, Wong, and Christine Palmer, as they travel into the multiverse in order to stop it from collapsing at the hands of Wanda Maximoff AKA The Scarlet Witch. Along the way, Doctor Strange and his team come face-to-face with several heroes and villains, both unfamiliar and oddly familiar, as well as variants of himself.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was released in the United States on May 6, and has since grossed over $873 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing movie of 2022.
