Day Shift: Jamie Foxx Vampire Slayer Movie Gets R Rating, Will Land on Netflix in August

Academy Award-winning actor Jamie Foxx will next slay vampires on Netflix in the upcoming action flick, Day Shift, which has now been officially given an R rating. The Motion Picture Association rating board (via filmratings.com) has awarded Day Shift an R rating for “strong violence and gore, and language,” meaning that the movie will not shy away from the dark and bloody aspects of vampire slaying.

Alongside the promising rating, it has also now been revealed that Day Shift will land on Netflix later this year on August 12. So, audiences don’t have to wait too much longer to see the Oscar-winning Jamie Foxx take the fight to the undead.

Day Shift sees Spider-Man: No Way Home star Jamie Foxx leading the way as a hard-working, blue-collar dad who just wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted daughter. By day, he works a mundane San Fernando Valley pool cleaning job, but this is simply a front for his real source of income, hunting and killing vampires as part of an international union of vampire hunters.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Netflix’s Day Shift has quite the action movie pedigree behind it, with the movie marking the directorial debut of JJ Perry, who is best known for his work as a second-unit director and stunt coordinator for such action outings as The Fate of the Furious, Bloodshot and, most exciting of all, the John Wick series. In fact, Perry is far from the only member of the Day Shift crew to have basked in the action movie greatness of Keanu Reeves’ unstoppable assassin.

The script for Netflix’s Day Shift has been written by Tyler Tice, with revisions having been penned by Shay Hatten of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum fame, with John Wick director Chad Stahelski on board as a producer alongside Jason Spitz for 87Eleven Entertainment; Shaun Redick and Yvette Yates Redick for Impossible Dream Entertainment. Jamie Foxx is executive producing with Datari Turner and Peter Baxter.

If the presence of Jamie Foxx as a vampire hunter, an R rating, and the various attachments to John Wick was not already enough to excite you, Day Shift has amassed an impressive supporting cast. Foxx will be joined in the cast by Dave Franco (The Disaster Artist), Snoop Dogg (Bones), Scott Adkins (Accident Man), Meagan Good (Monster Hunter), Karla Souza (How to Get Away with Murder), Eric Lange (Narcos), Zion Broadnax (Holly Day), Natasha Liu Bordizzo (The Society), Oliver Masucci (The Swarm), Steve Howey (Shameless), and C.S. Lee (Dexter).
