Barack Obama to Appear on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah

Before departing The Daily Show, Trevor Noah will be inviting a former American president to join him for an intimate interview. We are talking about Barack Obama who’s been booked to appear on the show. The news comes with a bit of short notice as it was reported by Variety on the morning of the interview with the appearance scheduled for the night of Thursday, Nov. 17. This will come before Noah’s final bow on The Daily Show which is scheduled for Dec. 8, 2022.

According to the report, the interview will see Obama speaking about the Obama Foundation Democracy forum along with “critical issues facing America and the world today.” The appearance will mark the third time Obama has appeared on The Daily Show to speak with Noah, though he also was interviewed by Jon Stewart on the program previously. With Noah, Obama first spoke with him in 2020, though it was a pre-taped virtual interview, and did one of his final interviews as president for The Daily Show in 2016.

The news that Obama is coming to The Daily Show follows a major announcement made by his longtime rival Donald Trump. It had been speculated that Trump would be running for president again in 2024, and this week, the former Apprentice host made it official. We can presume that Obama will be touching on the big announcement, which may have had something to do with his new interview happening on such short notice.

Barack Obama Has Moved On to Entertainment

Since leaving the White House, Obama has been delving further into entertainment, including a lucrative deal with Netflix he’d signed alongside Michelle Obama to bring exclusive content to the streamer. This has included Obama’s docuseries Our Great National Parks which drew widespread acclaim. Obama even managed to win a Creative Arts Emmy Award for Outstanding Narrator based on his work on the series.

Watch Barack Obama on The Daily Show on Thursday night’s episode, airing on Comedy Central on Nov. 17. You can see Noah take his final bow as the host when his last episode of The Daily Show follows on Dec. 8, 2022. No new host has yet been named, but the plan is for the series to return without Noah in January 2023.

“I realized that after that seven years, my time is up. But in the most beautiful way,” Noah said on The Daily Show when announcing his exit in October. “I’ve loved hosting the show. It’s been one of my greatest challenges. It’s been one of my greatest joys. I have loved trying to figure out how to make people laugh, even when the stories are particularly shitty on the worst days. You know, we’ve laughed together, we’ve cried together. But after seven years, I feel like it’s time.”
