Apple TV+’s Echo 3: Plot, Cast, Release Date, and Everything Else We Know

Apple TV+ has been dropping back-to-back action thrillers like Slow Horses and Shantaram this year. Now It is back with another action thriller, Echo 3, based on the Israeli television series When Heroes Fly and inspired by Amir Gutfruend’s novel of the same name. Echo 3 is one of the most anticipated Apple TV+ shows for fall 2022, produced by Keshet Studios, the US production arm of Keshet International. The series is created by Academy Award winner Mark Boal, well known for his films The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty.

The streaming platform recently released a trailer for Echo 3, and the series, shot in Colombia and filmed in English and Spanish, captivates viewers with a black ops intrigue. So, here’s everything we know about Echo 3, Apple TV+’s action thriller series.

Echo 3: The Plot

Set in South America, Echo 3 follows Amber Chesborough (Jessica Ann Collins), a brilliant young scientist who is kidnapped by dangerous individuals with an unknown objective. Bambi (Luke Evans), her brother, and Prince (Michiel Huisman), her husband, are reunited for an arduous assignment after she, the heart of this American family, mysteriously vanishes.

With prior military experience and a complicated past, the two work together to find out what happened to Amber at the Colombia-Venezuela border. As assistance from the CIA arrives, Bambi and Prince set off on a new mission to find Amber, who is being held hostage in Venezuela. Amber, on the other hand, is dealing with enemies in her own way, hoping that her brother and husband, both former Special Forces soldiers, will come to her aid.

What would the main duo have to confront against the explosive backdrop of this secret war before they can save their loved one?

Echo 3: The Cast & Crew

Apple TV+

The cast of the upcoming series is quite appealing, especially Jessica Ann Collins, who plays Amber and is known for her appearances in Zero Dark Thirty, Revolution, and Person of Interest. The lead roles are played by Michiel Huisman and Luke Evans, who plays Prince and Bambi, respectively. Huisman has had a long and successful career in films and television shows such as Game of Thrones, World War Z, and The Haunting of Hill House. Luke Evans, likewise, is well-known for his performances in movies such as Fast and Furious, Dracula Untold, and Beauty and the Beast. Natalie Foster, a CIA undercover operative, is played by Elizabeth Anweis. Among her notable prior works are Batwoman, Grey’s Anatomy, and Ghosted.

From the trailer, these appear to be the main focus of the story. Still, there are other prominent cast members, including James Udom as Mitch, Maria del Rosario as Graciella, Fahim Fazli as Al-Qaeda commander, Marco Khan as Majid, Lexi Janicek as Young Amber, Katherine Hughes as Reese Keller, Ethan, and Oliver J Green as Young Bambi, Bradley Whitford as Prince’s Dad, Temeuera Morrison as Roy Lennon, and Valerie Mahaffey as Ms. Chesborough.

Although the series was inspired by Amir Gutfreund’s novel “When Heroes Fly,” Omri Givon, who worked on the original Israeli series, shares writing credits for Echo 3. As a scriptwriter and executive producer, Mark Boal, a two-time Academy Award winner, contributes the most to the series. The film is directed by Pablo Trapero, a renowned producer and writer whose previous works include Venice 70: Future Reloaded, ZeroZeroZero, and Ensayo. While Christopher Young, who previously scored for Spider-Man 3, Ghost Rider, and A Nightmare on Elm Street, is composing the music, Denise Chamian and Liz Ludwitzke are in charge of the casting.

Release Date

Apple TV Plus has officially confirmed with a trailer that the series will be available to stream on its platform from November 23, 2022.

Everything Else We Know

Apple TV+

One of the few things we find appealing about this show is the casting, as Luke Evans is no stranger to action backdrops, and Michiel Huisman needs no introduction. Jessica Ann Collins previously played Debbie in Zero Dark Thirty, directed by Mark Boal. According to AppleInsider, Boal expressed his thoughts on the show. He stated:

“I’m honored to collaborate with the team at AppleTV+ who gave me the opportunity to make the series I wanted to make – one that feels big and purposeful and refuses to stay in any lane. This is a black ops thriller and tale of international intrigue, set in Colombia, a country I had known only from afar and immediately fell in love with.”

With such a solid casting and production crew, the show’s success seems very much within reach. As far as the action goes, it would be a treat for the viewers since Echo 3 will have a similar tone to movies like The Gray Man and Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction. Hopefully, the series will pull off the epic story of When Heroes Fly more dramatically, and you’ll find out shortly when it debuts on Apple TV+.
