In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) plays an important role. After being corrupted by the Darkhold, she ascends to a hitherto unseen level of power. As the movie progresses, she not only overpowers the mystic defensive forces of Kamar-Taj, but she also makes an ingress into an alternate dimension when she possesses a Wanda variant and uses the body to solo an Avengers-level team called “The Illuminati.” Now, Olsen’s stunt double, CC Ice, has shared behind-the-scenes footage featuring her work on the stunts during one of the movie’s key set pieces: Wanda in Socks vs. The Blink and You Miss Them Illuminati.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
The Illuminati can be considered the equivalent of “The Avengers” on Earth-838, where Wanda pursues Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) during the second act of Multiverse of Madness. The Illuminati consist of some familiar (and not-so-familiar) faces. For instance, the first member we meet is a variant of Baron Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), the Sorcerer Supreme in Earth-838, who uses a drugged tea to capture Strange and America. In the following scenes, we also meet Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell), a Captain America variant, and a variant of Captain Marvel, the Maria Rambeau, played by Lashana Lynch, edition. Plus, the roster also features two Starfleet captains. There is Anson Mount, who finally returns as Blackagar Boltagon (or “Black Bolt,” to the casuals), and there is also Sir Patrick Stewart, who reprises the role of Professor Charles Xavier.
However, despite their impressive pedigree, the Scarlet Witch dispatches each member with quick, grim efficiency. Yet, in stark contrast to the brutal slaughter she is committing, Wanda wears a causal outfit during the battle – a comfy shirt and plain blue pants. This is because the Scarlet Witch has used dream walking to possess the Earth-838 Wanda variant, who was having an ice cream night with her children when her consciousness was subsumed.
CC Ice Discusses Preparing for the Role
Now, to get a better look at Wanda fighting Captain Carter, fans can check out the behind-the-scenes footage of the battle. The stunt footage released by Ice features cross-cutting between the final version of the fight scene and the stunt footage, which takes place amid a sea of green screens and includes visible wires to keep the performers safe while doing the stunts. This only underscores the impressive amount of work that goes into making the magic of the Marvel Cinematic Universe come to life.
Ice told St. Louis on the Air that when performing these stunts, her challenge isn’t the physicality of the movement but doing the scenes as Olsen would do them. “I take very seriously the respect to give towards her and her character,” Ice said. “So, therefore, when I come to be a part of it, it’s not me, it’s not my character that I’m making; it’s her character. So I try to learn to walk like her, how to perform like her, with my own special twist on it with the action bits, [but] I’m never trying to just inject my own thoughts or feelings about it.”
